Beaumont, CA - On Tuesday, August 29, 2023, the Beaumont Police Department was contacted by Mountain View Middle School Site Administrators in regard to an email sent to staff through safety reporting software. The author of the email reported having a gun and alluded to using it tomorrow morning. The email did not provide specifics on location or other circumstances.
A Beaumont Police Department School Resource Officer was on campus and responded to speak to the Administrator who received
the message and identified the student whose email account the message was received from. Officers conducted a Student Threat Assessment and Response (STAR) Protocol at the home of the student, no weapons were found in the home. During the investigation officers were unable to determine the source of the email message.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Beaumont Police Department will plan to have a visible presence on campus tomorrow. We work closely with the Beaumont Unified School District on these matters. For the last several years the Beaumont Police Department has been part of a committee with District Administrators who meet regularly to discuss security concerns on school campuses, as well as provide training and education to staff, students, and parents on how to respond to critical incidents. The Beaumont Police Department in partnership with BUSD, has dedicated three full-time School Resource Officers (SRO) to school district campuses. The SROS are also available to assist with safety concerns. The Beaumont PD and Beaumont Unified have a shared commitment to keep our school community safe.
All threats towards school campuses are taken seriously and investigated to the fullest. Since school has just returned from summer break it is a good time to have conversations with your children about the importance of being vigilant and reporting something of concern to appropriate staff and/or law enforcement. “If you see something, say something”, together we can work to ensure the safety of both our students and community.
