Councilmember Mike Lara

Biography

Mayor Mike Lara was first elected to office in November 2014 and is serving his third term. He is a lifetime resident of Beaumont, and his family has been integral to Beaumont’s history for decades.

Mike and his wife, Susie, have been married for 34 years and have two adult children and three grandchildren. While raising their children, Mike coached Beaumont Youth Baseball, volunteered with the Pass Stingrays, and led the AWANA program at his local church. And now, Mike is coaching his grandchildren.

His working career spanned 35 years with the County of Riverside, where he started as an Architectural Draftsman and retired as a Building Official in 2019.

His official community service began in 2013 when he was appointed to the Beaumont Cherry Valley Recreation and Park District as a Board member until he was elected to his first term for the Beaumont City Council.

During his tenure on the City Council, and during appointment as Mayor, Mike and Council Member White negotiated a City Council approved $63 million settlement involving the Western Riverside Council of Governments, resolving a $40 million city scandal, while securing $24 million in restitution fees.

Moving forward, Mike plans to work closely with our sister cities, Banning and Calimesa, to improve communication and relationships to benefit the Pass Area as a whole. Finally, he’ll be reaching out to our community, sharing our events, goals, and accomplishments.

Mike is deeply rooted in the City of Beaumont and is committed to continuing his family tradition of serving the Beaumont community as a council member by keeping the City of Beaumont a city, elevated.
